Ding Dong Bell
Posted by David on February 24th, 2009 at 21:25When you start to lose your voice even simple things become difficult -
even communicating inside the home can be a struggle.
We decided that something needed to be done but what? First of all we
tried the “shouting” technique, but it is hard to shout with MND, then
the “banging on the wall” technique but was it banging or the TV? We
looked at mobile phones, takes too long, walkie talkies (you need to
speak to use a walkie talkie!). We nearly gave up then by chance came
across a “wireless doorbell”. This consists of a bell base unit that
plugs into the mains socket - we use 2, one upstairs and one down stairs
and a bell push button (the doorbell) that can be activated relatively
easily and sets off both units at the same time. The bell push button is
small can be put into a pocket and carried around the house. These can
be bought from any DIY centre (Homebase or B&Q). The bell unit can also
be plugged in the garden as there is a 100m range.
The door bell push button works a bit like a wireless internet signal
sending a signal to the bell units even through walls.
Now whenever help is needed a beautiful Westminister Chime rings out
around the house, although there are several other tunes to choose from.
Both person pressing and person coming to assist meet each other in a
relaxed way.
Rain in Sydney and Bush Fires
Posted by Jeannette on February 16th, 2009 at 16:13Mike my husband arrived from the UK on Monday and would you believe, it hasn’t stop raining since he got here, just hope it fines up for my son’s wedding day on the 14th. As you know how desperately the poor people in Victoria need this rain. I could go on and on about that, knowing now that some of the fires were started deliberately. It beggars belief.
As for me I am having a wonderful time and seem to have been able to gad about all over the place. On the 22nd we are hoping to have a big open house here at our friend’s house that will save us having to go here, there and everywhere. We can catch up with everyone in one go.
Mike is waiting for the HOT weather we keep telling him about, could be next week but it was a bit much for me. 40 deg is a bit over the top so most people stayed at home or in the shopping centres, like me, well I did need some new clothes, didn’t I?(smaller size) now I just have to get them home. I have posted 2 boxes sea mail already because excess luggage is so expensive.
Palmtop is going non stop, boy, it really has helped me, when I am out and use it, people are fascinated by it.
See you all soon and remember me to the MND team and all the people who have MND.
